Where The Earth Meets The Sky

“We wanted to unleash and protect the magic of this place, the magic of the Andes, the magic of the top of the mountains.” Thirty years ago, Hervé Scott-Birnie set out for Argentina’s uncultivated Uco Valley in his trusty 2 CV, armed only with a backpack and WW1 fighter plane altimeter. The 550 ha of high altitude vines in Terrazas de los Andes’ 10 vineyards are the fruit of the labours of ‘el loco frances’ - as Hervé affectionately came to be known by the locals.

Guests including Julie Sheppard, Margaret Rand, Harry Eyres and Alice Lascelles were taken through a range of mountain fresh wines, including Terrazas de los Andes’ flagship Grand Malbec, and the single vineyard El Espinollo Parcel N˚ 2W. Terrazas de los Andes were the first people to plant in Gualtallary, and El Espinollo is the highest vineyard here at 1,650m.
