Château d'Esclans 2021 Vintage Launch

Established by veteran wine industry luminary Sacha Lichine in 2006, Château d’Esclans is widely credited with creating the Premium Rosé category and claims to be the leading Côtes-de-Provence Rosé in the UK.

We were lucky enough to be able to invite Press to a private tasting with Château d’Esclans’ Technical Director Bertrand Léon for the launch of their new 2021 vintage wines. Bertrand took us through each of the Estate’s five Rosé wines, digging deep into vinification methods and remarking how the 2021 vintage produced particularly aromatic wines. While Whispering Angel and Rock Angel were vibrant and fresh, the estate’s Château d’Esclans, Les Clans and Garrus showed how - with a judicious use of oak - Rosé can have just as much complexity as a white Burgundy! Provençal Rosé is famous for its pale pink hue, though Bertrand explained that for him: “Colour is a consequence; consistency is key”.

We lucked out on an exceptionally sunny October day, where guests included David Kermode, Margaret Rand, Andy Howard MW, Diana Thompson, Rosé expert Ben Bernheim, Kirsty Woodgate, Eloise Feilden, Fabio Adler and Jessica Summer.
