Numanthia Terroir Tasting With Lucas Lowi

Bodega Numanthia is rapidly establishing itself as a real reference for Toro in NW Spain; a region which is exceptional for its ungrafted, old, Phylloxera-resistant Tinta de Toro bush vines.

Yields are amongst the lowest in the world from sprawling bush vines that are anywhere from 50 to 200 years old. And yes, you did read that right! Estate Director Lucas Lowi hosted a tasting of three terroirs – La Manga, La Jara, Argujillo - alongside the new 2017 vintage Numanthia, a blend of 8 terroirs. Guests were also treated to a vertical of top wine Termanthia, including the new 2015 vintage.

Lucas explained that the winery is now on a quest for “more freshness and a truer expression of terroir”.

Guests included Margaret Rand, Andy Howard MW, Anne Krebiehl MW, Patrick Schmitt MW and Sarah Abbott MW from Old Vine Conference - an organisation which is working hard to preserve old vines around the world.
