Open Minds & Opened Eyes!

They came with open minds, and left with opened eyes…  can Prosecco age? The answer, when it comes to Bottega Prosecco dei Poeti is an unequivocal yes, according to our expert panel of Press. Sandro Bottega presented a 7-strong vintage vertical, with wines from 2013 up to 2022. And even those who were not Prosecco fans when they arrived, left as converts – myself included. Charmed as much by the wines as by the eloquent host with an encyclopaedic knowledge of both business and winemaking, and his counterfoil – the supremely knowledgeable and time-conscious Susan Hulme MW. (We over-ran horribly, in spite of Susan’s best efforts, but no-one seemed to mind.) The event culminated in a food and wine pairing exercise, with 5 of Bottega’s other wines (both sparkling and still) matched to canapés created by that clever team at 67 Pall Mall. Guests included:  Tamlyn Currin, Harry Eyres, Carla Capalbo, Brad Horne, The Buyer’s Victor Smart, John Clarke, Joanna Dabrowska and Susana Kawai. (DB’s Fine Wine correspondent Richard Woodard is still cursing his cancelled train – I think there was a frozen leaf on the track!)
