Roebuck Estates Wins 'Best In Show' at Decanter World Wine Awards 2020

Roebuck Estates Classic Cuvée 2014 has taken the top title of ‘Best In Show’ at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards and has also been awarded a Platinum Medal.

Established in 2013, Roebuck Estates is located close to the historic market town of Petworth in West Sussex and focuses on traditional method sparkling wines from the classic trio of Champenoise varietals.  Its second release, and first commercially available wine, scored 97 out of 100 points and is the only English Sparkling Wine to receive a ‘Best In Show’ award at this year’s competition.

“We are absolutely delighted to have won this incredible award,” comments General Manager James Mead who joined Roebuck Estates six years ago.  “To have garnered such high praise from an esteemed group of knowledgeable tasters for only our second wine is especially rewarding.  It very firmly puts Roebuck Estates on the wine map and benchmarks us against some of the very best sparkling wines produced in the world.  As ever, thanks to the incredible teams behind our wines - it’s thanks to their hard work that we have received this brilliant award.”

Roebuck Estates Classic Cuvée 2014 is a blend of 47% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier and has a dosage of just 7g/l.  The grapes were whole bunch pressed with a small proportion partially fermented in French oak casks, and the wines underwent a minimum of 36 months lees-ageing.

“We set out with the aim of making wines that are elegant yet with richness, character and depth of flavour and also give a sense of time and place” explains James.  “Key to this wine’s character is that a small percentage is fermented in old Burgundian oak and it has also received generous lees-ageing.  In fact, to preserve the quality of all the wines in our range, one of our qualitative mantras is to only release a wine once we feel that it has reached its optimum drinking potential.”

Roebuck Estates Classic Cuvée 2014 is available by both the bottle and case through roebuckestates.co.uk at RRP £35 and at £34.95 at southdownscellars.co.uk both of whom can deliver nationally.
