Red Squirrel Holds First Trade Tasting

Native Grape Specialist Red Squirrel Holds First Trade Tasting

Red Squirrel, the UK’s native grape specialist, is holding its first ever agency portfolio tasting on 7th October, in central London.

Born in summer 2012, Red Squirrel is now among the fastest growing national wine distributors in the country, supplying the independent On and Off-Trade in every region.

Set up by ex-journalist and management consultant, and long time wine lover, Nik Darlington, Red Squirrel specialises in native and downright unusual grape varieties.  The company sources its wines from an expanding band of small, highly creative and fiercely independent producers in Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Australia.

“Our trading with indies and the On-Trade has mushroomed nearly tenfold year-on-year, and new enquiries are coming in all the time,” explains Darlington.  “We seek out bottles from new regions, re-emerging regions and forgotten regions: wines that tell a story, are part of the history of their region or just breaking the mould in an awesome way.  On 7th October all our wines can be tasted in one place, at one time.

“We’ll have over 75 wines on show from more than 30 producers, including a new Prosecco from Ca’ di Rajo, biodynamic whites from Portugal's Vale da Capucha, a racy Riesling from Aussie Martin Cooper in the Mosel, and, for the first time from Vinteloper one of the finest Pinots to come out of the Australia. Ever,” he confirms.

A number of winemakers from the Red Squirrel portfolio will be in attendance, including:

Weingut Eschenhof Holzer (Austria)

Clos Rocailleux (Gaillac, France)

Weingut Emil Bauer & Söhne (Pfalz, Germany)

Franco Mondo (Piemonte, Italy)

Ca’ di Rajo (Veneto, Italy)

Boas Quintas (Portugal)

Vale da Capucha (Portugal)

Bodegas HGA (Spain)
