LGI Has Your Summer Drinking Solutions Sorted...

Summer just wouldn't be summer without some Southern French sunshine from LGI… And here are two to see you through these final hazy days.

Etoile de Mer Rosé 2013, Côtes de Luberon
RRP £11.99, Majestic - or £8.99 each when you buy 2 until 29th September 2014

LGI winemaker Xavier Roger has looked beyond his Languedoc landscape for this pale, dry, elegant rosé.  Standing tall in a fabulous 'Sophia' bottle, this pink is a blend of Cinsault and Syrah grapes from vineyards on chalky, clay soils nestled between the Mediterranean and Mont Ventoux.  Grapes were harvested at night-time, and vinification took place after direct pressing with a fermentation at 14-16oC in stainless steel to avoid oxidation.

Pale, dry and with aromas of ripe strawberries on the nose, this Provencal style rosé is surprisingly intense and velvety on the palate with a wonderfully fresh and long finish.  A pink that's crying out for seafood platters… or simply to be sipped while sitting in the sun.

Clefs du Pontif Marsanne Viognier 2013, IGP Pays d'Oc
RRP £8.99, Avery's of Bristol (averys.com)

Paying homage to the great whites of the Rhône Valley, this is a blend of 60% Marsanne and 40% Viognier grapes sourced from the stony, pebbly soils of vineyards in Argeliers in the heart of the Languedoc.  Only the best plots were harvested and, after six hours' skin contact, the grapes were pneumatically pressed.  The juice was then fermented at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks to retain as many of the grapes' primary fruit flavours as possible.  Ageing was on the fine lees over several months.

Completely unoaked, this white has a lovely smoothness from the Marsanne while the Viognier brings tropical fruit notes.  Bright golden yellow in colour, there are aromas of peach and apricot on the nose, while on the palate there is a zesty, refreshing acidity and definite minerality which makes this wine perfect as an aperitif.
