Introducing Etoile de Mer Rosé - This Summer’s Star Pink

We’re told that summer is just around the corner…  When it arrives, this fresh, light, aromatic rosé from Southern French specialist LGI’s Luberon vineyards is sure to be the star of the show…

Located just to the north of Provence, Luberon is nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the imposing Mont Ventoux.  And for LGI winemaker Xavier Roger, this is just the place to look for the grapes he needs.

“Luberon is a mini-Provence and great value for money,” says Xavier.  “It may not be as famous as its neighbour, but the vineyards here are still perfect for light, elegant pinks.  The high altitude (400 m) means temperatures are cooler at night, and the chalky clay terroir retains some of the daytime humidity - all of which leads to a fresh style of wine.”

Xavier harvests the 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache grapes at night and, after direct pressing, vinifies the grapes at low temperatures of 15oC to maintain as much freshness as possible.  The final wine is also matured on the fine lees for two months to bring a touch of complexity to the palate.

“This is a perfect rosé version of a southern French blend,” says Xavier.  “The Syrah brings spicy, floral aromas and the Grenache the fruit notes and body with notes of the ‘garrigue’ that is the hallmark of wines from this area.  And we’ve also selected a bottle shape that we call ‘Sophia’ - you’ll see it all over the French Riviera and is named after Sophia Loren…”
