Hallgarten Adds To Argentine Portfolio

Press Release

Hallgarten Adds To Argentine Portfolio

Hallgarten has added Piattelli to its Argentina portfolio - the first time that wines from this producer have been available in the UK.

Founded in 2002, Piattelli has vineyards in Mendoza and Cafayete high in the desert foothills of the Andes, with those in Agrelo - Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco certified organic.  Winemaker Valeria Antolin focuses mainly on Malbec, Torrontes and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.  The main winery in Mendoza has a 40,000 case capacity and is one of the only gravity-flow vinification systems in Argentina.

Hallgarten’s Head of Buying Steve Daniel discovered Piattelli during a buying trip to Argentina in late 2015.  “When I was introduced to these wines, my first thought was ‘why are they not represented in the UK?’”, he says.  “I tasted the entire range and was very impressed.  The winemaker, Valeria Antolin, absolutely knows her stuff and makes very elegant wines with a really pure fruit expression.  They’re a great new addition to the portfolio and I can’t wait to see them on the market.”

The wines will be on show at Hallgarten’s Trade tastings next week at London’s Horticultural Halls (Feb 8th and 9th) and at Yorkshire’s Rudding Park hotel (Feb 10th).

Wines now available to the UK Off and On-Trades include the Alto Molino Torrontes and Malbec (RRP £10.99), the Piattelli varietal range - Torrontes, Tannat, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon (RRP £12.99), the Grand Malbec (RRP £15.99) and the Piattelli Trinita Malbec Merlot Cabernet blend (RRP £18.99).

Hallgarten is also adding two more value-for-money wines from Mendoza under the Sierra Los Andes label - a Torrontes and a Malbec (RRP £8.99) to reflect the great interest in Argentina from its customers.

Piattelli and Sierra Los Andes join Doña Paula, Matias Riccitelli, Andeluna and El Camino in the Hallgarten stable.
