Green Yali has a Rosé Glow...

Yali Wetland Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2011        RRP £6.99, Morrisons

Hot off the press for ....er....summer... a new Rosé wine from leading Chilean producer Viña Ventisquero which joins the entry level Wetland tier of the environmentally friendly Yali range.

Weighing in at just 11.5° ABV, the Yali Wetland Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2011 is made using grapes from Viña Ventisquero's owned vineyards in Peralillo, Colchagua Valley.

Winemaker Alejandro Galaz explains, "The blend of sand, silt and a small amount of clay in these soils makes for soft, easy-drinking wines.  You'll also find a balancing refreshing acidity in this Rosé which - along with the low alcohol level - is achieved by allowing the canopy to grow unmanaged.  The shoots open up over the clusters acting effectively as sun umbrellas; this allows the grapes to ripen fully, but removes direct exposure to the intense Chilean sunshine which would raise the sugar content and alcohol."

The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested at night and fermented at low temperatures between 13-15°C in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve maximum fruit character.  Lees stirring post fermentation added complexity and richness to the blend.

The nose displays aromas of fresh raspberries, strawberries and soft floral notes, which are joined on the palate by juicy flavours of ripe berries, succulent melons and a touch of zingy grapefruit.  The wine has lovely texture and is delicious with seafood, light creamy pasta dishes or Thai food.  It is equally as delightful on its own as a refreshing, summery aperitif.
