‘Duo Des Mers’:  A Bottle Of Southern French Flair

Duo des Mers 2015 from southern French specialist LGI, is a sunshine-inducing blend of Sauvignon Blanc from Atlantic-influenced Gascony and Viognier from Mediterranean-influenced Languedoc.

Managing Director and Winemaker Xavier Roger notes that, “We’ve been producing single varietal Sauvignon Blancs and Viogniers for a number of years, but here we have blended the two, and combined Gascony and the Languedoc, to truly put the South of France in a bottle.”

Roger continues, “It is the Atlantic breezes, warm days and cool nights and sandy slopes in Gascony that brings out the Sauvignon Blanc’s fresh, aromatic character.  Viognier is sourced from vineyards around Argeliers in the Languedoc, where the heat-retaining Galets Roulés - stony pebbles - and warmer temperatures give grapes with full, exotic fruit flavours.”

RRP £5.95, The Wine Society

The 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Viognier grapes were picked relatively early in the harvest in order to take advantage of the fruit’s high aromatic potential and resulting fresh style.  Harvesting took place at night in both regions and pressing was carried out in an inert atmosphere - both steps taken to prevent oxidation.
