Cavit’s Contemporary New Look For Bottega Vinai Range

Cavit’s Contemporary New Look For Bottega Vinai Range

Leading Trentino co-operative Cavit has repackaged its popular Bottega Vinai range to give it a cleaner, more contemporary look.

Long-term distributor Boutinot first introduced Cavit’s Bottega Vinai Pinot Grigio to the UK back in 2002.  Marketing Manager Christina Cavender comments, “Pinot Grigio is still the top performing wine in the range, and an obvious choice for customers - especially as Pinot Grigio has become less of an entry / house wine option, giving increased opportunities to position these wines at a more premium level on a wine list.  Over the years, we’ve added Nosiola, Lagrein and Sauvignon Blanc, as it made sense to offer other indigenous and international grape varieties that also gave fantastic varietal expression at a compelling quality versus price ratio.  The Nosiola is of particular interest, as this versatile style has such wide appeal and is very well-priced.”

Bottega Vinai is part of Cavit’s ‘Quality Project’, established 30 years ago with a view to increasing quality at the mid to upper tier levels.  Selected vineyards (just 180 ha of the 5,500 ha Cavit has access to) have been set aside for the production of the Bottega Vinai wines.  Once picked, the grapes from the different growers are vinified separately in small batches and the winemaking team, headed up by Andrea Faustini and Fabrizio Marinconz, will then choose the best wines in any given vintage to blend together.  Recent years have seen a change in the winemaking style, with the team increasingly selecting the most characterful wines with good varietal expression, and employing minimal use of barrique or cask ageing so as not to mask the natural fruit character.

Cavit was formed in 1950 to train Trentino’s winegrowers and create a winemaking culture throughout the region.
